Christmas is coming and with so many of us looking forward to the holidays, there are many important questions to be asked. Do Yorkshire puddings belong on a Christmas Roast? Is Die Hard a Chrstmas film? Why do people put prawns in their crackers? So with Christmas right around the corner we wanted to find out students’ and teachers' opinions and their favourite parts of the holiday. I interviewed many different members of staff and students and these are the responses I got!

Firstly, if you need to get in the Christmas spirit, what is better than listening to some Christmas tunes and watching a good Christmas film? There were controversial discussions about whether Elf is a good Christmas film or one of the worst and whether Diehard is actually a Christmas film. But what do you think? If you don’t know what to listen to or watch, here are some of Coopers’ students’ and staffs’ favourites.

Films

  • Diehard

  • Love Actually

  • (“Definitely not”) Elf

  • Arthur Christmas

  • The Holiday

  • Home Alone

  • The Santa Clause

  • It’s a Wonderful Life

  • Deck the Halls

  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Edition

  • Last Christmas

  • Christmas Chronicles

  • Gladiator!

Songs

  • Christmas Wrapping- the Waitresses

  • Under the Tree- Ed Sheeren

  • Jingle Bells

  • Underneath the Tree- Kelly Clarkson

  • Fairytale Of New York

  • Santa Baby

  • Snowman- Sia

  • “I don’t actually like Christmas songs”

  • Last Christmas

  • Mistletoe - Justin Bieber

  • Driving Home for Christmas

  • (Anything but) 12 days of Christmas

  • O Holy Night

Now you’re feeling in the Christmas spirit you might be a bit peckish for some of the amazing Christmas food. A crowd favourite was pigs in blankets but many people were disgusted when some people said Yorkshire puddings. So the question remains, are Yorkshire puddings a Christmas food or not? Here are some of the students’ and staffs’ favourites.

Food

  • M&S Christmas stuffing

  • Cheese straws

  • Chocolate Brazil nuts from Amazon

  • Homemade sausage rolls

  • Brussel sprouts

  • Hot Pot

  • Fried rice

  • Mince pies

  • Cauliflower cheese

  • Gravy

  • Christmas pudding

  • Proper meat stuffing “like stuffing your turkey”

  • Panettone

  • Boxing Day dinner with cold meats

  • Yorkshire puddings

  • Pigs in blankets “because the meat it just ooooo yeah”

We all celebrate Christmas differently so here are some of our students’ and staffs’ Christmas traditions. Will you be starting any of these in your house this year?

Traditions

  • Playing the kazoos on Christmas Eve in five part harmonies

  • Putting a prawn in a cracker

  • Watching the Polar Express on Christmas Eve

  • Christmas Eve looking for Christmas lights

  • Secret Santa

  • Christingle service Christmas Eve

  • Watching the animated Christmas Carol

  • Christmas Day swim

  • Midnight mass

  • Coopers’ Country Dancing

  • White elephant with the family

  • Seeing family on Boxing Day (second Christmas, second presents)

  • Walking by the sea on Christmas Eve

  • Daddy’s home 2 on Christmas Eve

  • Going to see the Cliffs pavilions’ panto on Christmas eve with all my family in Christmas jumpers

  • Playing the game Spoons with acorns

Voted by the crowd we can confirm that Yorkshire Puddings do belong with Christmas dinner, Diehard is a Christmas film and no one can understand why one of our students keeps putting prawns in their Christmas crackers.

So that’s a wrap… get it! Have a holly jolly Christmas xoxo, the Coopers Chronicle.
