The Boys Walk the Walk
The mighty Cooperians successfully took on local rivals Brentwood Private on the weekend under horrid conditions. Prior to kick off there had been a lot of talk from both sides, but it is safe to say all Brentwood mouths were firmly shut at the sound of the final whistle.
Due to the elements, it made playing fast and exciting rugby almost impossible. Therefore this presented a physical, rough and demanding fixture in which the boys had to dig deep, their resolve and grit being tested. The lads got off to a fast start capitalising on the opposition's weak defence in the opening minutes, sending the home crowd into utter ecstasy which produced a bouncing atmosphere. Despite consolidating this lead with another try soon after, the opposition managed to claw back the deficit and bring themselves level right before the first half’s conclusion. As the game progressed deeper it became a question of who wanted it more, with more gaps opening up across the pitch that could be exploited as Brentwood began to unravel. Through some moments of individual brilliance, the boys battled to regain their lead, really taking their game to another level.
Even in the face of going a man a down, the team displayed loads of resilience and composure, asking questions of Brentwood in which they received no reply. Finally, when all the players were back on the pitch, we were able to comfortably see out the game, delivering a well fought for victory.
